You can use POR-15 anywhere, but it needs a topcoat. Left alone, it's subject to UV damage (when exposed to sunlight). Can be painted over fairly easily when slightly tacky.

You may want to check out KBS coatings. I don't have any personal experience, but I'm looking into getting this over POR15. However, I still haven't made up my mind. Something to check out though.

re: use of por 15
I used POR 15 on the frame and engine bay of our 71 Mach 1 because I do not have a compressor and I wanted to brush it on. It requires a lot of prep and timing is important. I have not tried to paint over it with another type of paint but I did apply the POR overcoat several days after the POR rust preventative paint. I roughed up the surface with a 3M pad first and it seems to have bonded OK. They also sell a primer you can spray on the POR that they claim you can paint over but I have never tried it.
My bed is about 20 percent surface rust. I plan on trying SEM’s rust converter that acts as a primer on the floor of the bed. It will probably be a few weeks before I do it but I will let you know how it turns out. I have used similar products before and the downside is you can get crystals left behind that are hard to get off if you don’t rinse it off soon enough. I tried it on a brake drum and left it on for two days. I had to use a wire wheel to get the crystals off and I am sure that dust was not good to breath. I painted over it with high temp brake paint and it seems to be holding up OK.
