Quick ratio steering gear found, Ford Gear, Lares corp.

Post by fonzf100s »

Hey all,
Just thought I would pass along some info I found out. Lares Corp. now makes a quick ratio version of the Ford gear box for 68-79. I beleive the part # was 1061, but go to their website and look up the part #. I'm getting ready to put one in my '69 shortbed as my ford power stearing gear from a '78 is getting sloppy. Anyway just thought I would pass along the info. I myself like the quicker ratio.

Wouldn't a shorter ratio make it a b!tch to turn?

No, it will make it turn the wheels faster than stock.

I would love that. The manual steering box in my stepside sometimes reminds me of a bus. Doesnt the power steering box have a tighter turning ratio as well?

i think so. there was a thread about how many turns of the wheel it took for the manaul vs power awhile back.

I gather as much, but on a strictly manual system, if you change the gear ratio of the steering box you're going to change the amount of force required to turn the steering wheel. Therefore, one turn of the steering wheel will change the steering angle more, but it will require a whole lot more effort to make that turn at low speeds.

Bookmarked those guys for sure. My next swampbuggy project will require full hydraulic steering.
And they show full hydraulic assemblies, (although I don't see any prices).
