also marz, will the stock crossmember not hit far before the stock frame? I guess it's not a big deal if you just want a decent (read:5/7) drop. Integrating bags may lead to an un-level position when layed out. Regardless, I can't wait to see what you come up with!lightning_msd wrote:hey marz, what kind of inches lower we talking about here? just wondering...

Bad thing about IRS is you will be limited to how much lift you get.
Good thing about IRS is that it's bad a$$.
Bad thing about solid axle is that it's not idependent

Good thing is that you can get more lift than the IRS will allow and that you already have one under your truck.

The axles will bind on the irs if you go past the limit.
You can set your IRS on your frame to get maximum lift without the axles binding but it all depends what you plan on doing, for example if you plan to lay doors on 22's what I would do is set the frame flat on the ground assuming that it's already body dropped then put the IRS in position with the wheels/tire size you plan on using and make sure the suspension travel is aired down to were the axles wont bind, after you have it positioned and centered you can start building all the brackets and gussets that you will need for this bad a$$ setup. Make sure the floor is level first
. The only bad thing I can think of with this setup is that if you run a tall tire you might have a hard time changing a flat tire unless you jack up the truck high enough to pull the tire out and how do I know

I cant wait to see how Marz68 crossmember creation turns out. I was doing some measuring on my '68 and making a set up like a torsion bar mini would have when you bag one but it would take a wild upper control arm on the drivers side to clear the P.S box.
1968 swb hydroboost, ididit tilt column, Saginaw p/s pump with F series serpentine, all led lights, Vintage Air and painless wiring. 393w, tko600. CV front suspension w/c5 calipers and gt500 rotors. Stock Flexomatic leaf springs with 01 CV 8.8, 3.90 gears and Auburn locker. Custom wood bed floor. Full frame off resto-mod.

well I just borrowed my friends welder again so this weekend I will start tacking everything together
but first I need to make templates of all the pieces so that I can duplicate them later. I was going to use a stock upper control arm from a truck but the steering box gets in the way so i'll have to build custom upper and lower arms. I've been going back and forth trying to finish my trucks bed floor and the custom suspension but there isn't enough time in the day or two of me to get it done faster. I'm just trying to find the easiest way possible to make it a bolt on suspension so that it can get done in a weekend, well mabe longer just cause you will need to take it to the alignment shop after it's all put together.

I can't wait to see the finished work. Judging from the caliber of work you have done with your own truck it will be great.
