Disks on my 67 F250

Post by Kevin Harvey »

I would like to put disk brakes on my 67 F250 - What donor truck(s) do I need to be looking for? Also, what do I need to take? Are any just a spindle swap or am I looking at ALL front suspension items (both axles/spindles/radius arms etc....) I am also thinking that the proportioning valve also needs to be swapped right? Does the master cylinder also need to be swapped - it is currently a power brake truck (factory) and I have a master cylinder with a large and small reservoir on it. Thanks Kevin

If I'm not mistaken (somebody correct me)...
If you can find a donor up to mid-71 (good luck!), then just rob the calipers and hardware and it would spare you from changing out your spindles/kingpins. There are just four 3/4" bolts that hold it all on the spindle. AFAIK, the spindles for disc and drum were all the same.
Just don't forget to get the proportioning valve like I did

...and yes, you'll also need a disc-drum master cylinder to replace the drum-drum you have now.

Your F250 has a different spindle from the F100. To change to front discs, you need only the bracket, caliper, and hub/rotor from a '73-'79 F250 or SRW F350. The bracket replaces the drum backing plate. Of course you'll still need the master cylinder and proportioning valve. I started a thread on this back in March or February, but I can't find it. It was titled something like "F350 disc brake update" the search doesn't find it. I'll keep trying. I may have pictures to show what I found out with a '67 F350 parts truck and front brakes from a '77 f350.

Here's the bracket next to the backing plate.

here's the spindle with the backing plate removed. The bracket bolts right up.

I found the thread, manually. I must not have been putting the right keywords in the search engine.

My picture links went dead. I think they were the same ones I posted above.
