17 inch rims

Post by F250Chris »

Hi!
Actually I have 9.50 x 16.5 LT tires on my ´69 F250 Camper Special with original 8 lug rims. I´m not sure about the rim width.
My question now: Can I use 8x17 American Eagle 058 rims with 255/70-17 or 245/75-17 tires? And what do you think it would look like?
Thanks for your help.

if they will bolt on the rim size probably wont be noticed. as far as the style of rim i dont know. i have different tastes than most guys. the tire size will affect your speedometer reading.

OK, thanks.
Does anybody know, which 17 inch tires would fit so that the speedometer is not affected?

try this link. you can compare the proper tire size to any upsize you are thinking about running.

255/60r17 or 255/65r17 should get you pretty close. I'm basing 'original' off of the 20+ yr old set on 16.5 rims. They measure out to just a hair over 29" diameter.
Being slightly off won't be of major significance - even with a 1/2" change, the tires would be +/-1.5" off of a 91" travel... like a 2% variance? That said, I bought to get as close to 29.1" as possible.

Also, http://www.tirerack.com is handy for getting specs. After you pick a tire, hit Specs and it will show you the diameters for all the available sizes for that make.
