There are times when a person would see the justification for installing rear disc brakes, but 99.9% of the time, these trucks would never see any noticeable improvement....certainly not enough to justify the hassle and expense. I'm a huge advocate for installing front discs, since they do a vast majority of the stopping of a moving vehicle, but unless you plan to do a lot of road-racing or something similar, a front-disc/rear-drum setup will be more than adequate. Save the money you'd spend on rear discs for something else more worthwhile that you could actually get some benefit from. Just my :2cents: FWIW

I put them on my '70. I thought they worked a tiny smidge better than the stock rear drums unloaded, but loaded they absolutely SUCK! I wasted the rear pads and rotors in 30 minutes of going down a steep mountain pass with 20K in tow. The old rear drums would have handled the job fine, the new discs melted.

I have a '76 F-350 super camper D70B under the truck now with the big drum brakes and love them. The big drums have smoother and stronger braking than the discs did and don't seam to wear whatsoever or care how much weight I haul.
