re: 1968 Ford 100 with 8 lug suspension and disc brakes
Here we go! I am going to try to post some pictures of the truck and some of the pictures of the rear differential and the one picture of the back of the disc brake caliper.
Don't laugh at the tires hanging off of the front of the truck. The truck didn't want to push too easily (brakes I presume). My step-dad went with me to Jacksonville to tow-dolly the truck home so my step-dad also helped me by pushing the truck backwards around the corner of the fence to where it is sitting with his E-150 van.
I posted an attachment of the shop press I mentioned in a kingpin replacement post I placed under Garages Workshops and Tools. I was able to view the picture of the 6 ton Shop Press that made my kingpin job a one-day job for both sides.
Ok, I learned something new again. I can't attach more than three pictures to this post.

Brush Guard? Are you kidding about that? I wouldn't know the different types of goodies a truck might come with. I know there are zig-zag looking brackets screwed to the grille on the sides of the holes that are cut in the grille but I just figured the holes were where some Bozo (big shoes, blue suit, wide red hair and red nose) had foglights installed there at some time in the past.

Judging by the description and pics, that sounds like a dana 60 to me.

The person at work took some of the pictures I posted last night and did some searching of his own and came up with some pictures of some different Dana 44 and Dana 60 views. One of the pictures he found showed a Dana 44 that looked like the rear differential in my (donor?) truck and then he found another with the Dana 60 that looked like the rear differential in my (donor?) truck. Were there variations in the housings through the years? Remember, my door data tag shows C1 (Dana 44.3) as the factory rear differential for my truck. I still don't know if that means it was a five or an 8 lug differential.
Does anybody know if the company that does Marti Reports has records on Ford trucks from the 60s also?
The person at work also found a picture on this site of another Ford 100 with a Dana 60 in it that looked like it was someone's project / parts truck, green I believe. I couldn't find it myself.
I definitely want to see what the attachment to the grille looked like.

re: 1968 Ford 100 with 8 lug suspension and disc brakes
Some of the f-100's did come with the Dana 44 (5 lug) axles. If your truck has 8 lug axles, it has a Dana 60. More than likely, your truck underwhent a axle swap. Yes, your truck came with a Dana axle, but I'm sure it was 5 lug. Ford/Dana NEVER MADE A 8 LUG DANA 44 hope this answers your question.

I totally agree, sounds like someone just installed the suspension from an F250. As for the rearend, it should be marked:

Hey Keith, the gear ratio should be marked on the other side, right

re: 1968 Ford 100 with 8 lug suspension and disc brakes
Great, finally, what I was wanting to know. Again, until I purchased the first 1968 (that in the past before me was converted from a 360, 3 on the tree, to a 302, three on the tree) I didn't really know anything about these old trucks. I'd see them and admire them but I never thought I'd own one. I actually got some of my parts to fix my first F100 off of a "G" code 1971 F100. The local wrecking yard had 5 1967 - 1972 F100s and F250s combined and I was grabbing parts off of many of them for mine. All but one is crushed now, the 1971 2WD SWB Stepside I stripped some 302 engine parts off of to do a better job changing out some of the jury-rigs from the past owners' engine conversion.
The Dana 44 information was good to know too because a lot of what I was finding in my online searches all pertained to Jeeps with Dana 44s or just the front axles as Dana 44s. I couldn't find anything about Dana 44s as Ford 2WD pickup rear axles.
I believe I saw the same markings on the rear differential housing (the 60) last night when I was looking around under there and taking some more photos.
It's been busy tonight with my 1989 Mustang GT Convertible. I covered it with a tarp after my daughter brought it home just before a bunch of heavy rain. My daughter was driving it and the back window finally seperated from the top so it is going to the top shop tomorrow for an estimate and probably a deposit for a new top installation.
I will recheck and clean the rear differential, probably tomorrow and I will also look on the left side and see if there are numbers under all of that grime, dirt and grease and see what the left corner has cast into it.
I guess the F100 I just brought home will wind up being what I originally intended for it to be, a Donor Truck. It's the right color (the same that my other one is suposed to be).
Thanks.
I am still wanting to know about that grille or brush guard too. When I have some more time I'll try a search for that post from the past.
