tips on front end rebuild

Post by Banjo »

On 67 ibeams if you're using later spindles, the tall stop will reduce turn radius, you can drive out from backside rather than trying to trim.
On kingpins, best thing I've found so far is soaking in Purple Power for several days in a bucket (whole spindle/ibeam) and driving them out. Done 2 sets so far, was a fight. Banjo.

I just posted a short story on my recent kingpin replacement on one of my two 1968 F100s under the Garages Workshops and Tools section. It took me a day to do BOTH kingpins, no soaking and no beat-up hands. I only beat the threads a bit on the top end of one spindle before I purchased the Shop Press someone was selling second-hand that he had bought new from Harbor Freight Tools. It is definitely worth looking into.
I was desperate and actually never thought about the Purple Power.
Here's a neat trick, put some U.S. coins in Purple Power and let them soak for a few days. My friend forgot some coins in some Purple Power that he was trying to clean up for his daughter. I am not sure how long they soaked but he showed them to me afterwards. It stripped the coins plating off of them real bad. It's some powerful stuff.
Too many projects, too little time, but.. lovin' it!
