AIMS dropped beams

Post by KF100TK »

I bought the aims I- beams & MP's power disk brake kit and I am having trouble with getting the spindles onto the beams short of using a sledge hammer. Are they suppose to be difficult? Also I can't find any info on whether you use the stock springs & shocks or modified ones? Thanks Ken!

You shouldn't need a hammer at all.

The stock setup is (from the top)
Cap & greese zerk
Upper bushing (in spindle)
shims (as needed)
Axle/I-beam with anti-rotation bolt
Lower bearing
Lower Bushing (in spindle)
Cap & greese zerk

The only thing I can think of it that there might be a little paint buildup on the Axle/I-beam that might be restricting the Spindle from going on.

Most trucks take a few shims (mine took 4 each side) you want to just get rid of any vertical movement of the spindle on the King pin.

Hope this helps...maybe you should post a picture of how you are putting them together.

You need to ream the king pin bushings to fit. not sure what the clearance is off hand. Might want to ask a front end shop what they charge to do it. A good adjustable ream is going to cost @ $100.00.

Ahhhh...ya I didn't think about the actual King pin. If that is the problem then YES you do need them reamed by a shop. Any large truck shop should be able to do it $26 for a shop here in Wichita to do it. Atlas Spring & Axle. They do Beam bending for alignments as well.

You can use stock springs and shocks, or use lowering springs to drop it a little more if you want.

I got the front end on but haven't put it to the ground yet. I am doing the disk brake conversion as well ,so I still have to run new brake lines. I also just got the tie rod relocaters, does any one know how they go on?

I had a friend who had those on his truck, so I snapped a whole boatload of pictures with a standard fixed-focus lens camera. Once they got developed, I found out they turned out like cr*p. This is the only useable version of the tierod relocaters:

They must have redesigned tie rod relocater because mine looks different and I think that angled section has to be turned mounted to the spindle.
