New Member from Texas

Post by kmatexas »

I learned to drive on and my first vehicle was a 1970 F100. It was my dad's truck and currently resides under a pole barn. Now that I'm older and sentimental, I am considering bringing it back to life and making it a daily driver. My question is, are parts readily available? It is a plain jane truck, no pwr steering, no power brakes. Also, what kind of improvements do people typically do? I want to keep it stock but would like to convert the 360 to a 390 which doesn't sound too bad. I want the stock look, not a custom rod or anything like that. Is there anything to really look for that could potentially be a serious issue. The engine has less than a 100K on it. There is also a 1969 F100 Ranger with auto right next to it that is actually in better condition but I want to restore my old truck. Thanks...Kevin

KMA,

Welcome!

You've come to the right place for information. The first thing you need to do is get us some pictures of what you're working on!

In all seriousness you shouldn't have a hard time finding parts in Texas, there are quite a few left in junkyards and the like. In the drier regions of the country these trucks lasted longer and so there are still plenty around (I bought mine in Arizona!).

What transmission is in it? Is it 2WD or 4WD? Does it have any rust issues?

3 on the tree, 2wd.

I know the hood has rust but my little brother, who drove it as his first truck as well, let the hood fly up and smash the top of the cab. There are some other body issues as well I'm sure. We gave it hell in this truck.

:wel: Having your first truck again sounds awesome. As far as "upgrades" go, power disk brakes can be easily swapped in using parts from a 73-79 F100. Just swap in the whole front suspention. Look here for detailed info on the swap. Power steering is another relatively simple upgrade, if you get the right parts. Surf around the home page for more info than your head can hold. Wiper delay, tilt steering, there are lots of things that can be done.
