Drop DJM beams and disc brake question?

Post by mnagatani »

I've got a 68 two wheel drive with the DJM lowered beams. I want disc brakes up front. Can I go to the yard and get the 75-79 suspension parts and do the swap with of course keeping the lowered beams? I know its been mentioned to get the whole setup. Is that because of some of the parts not being interchangeable? And if they are which ones. Thanks all

Get everything while your at the yard because I don't think you'll be able to get the king pins out without some heat and maybe a press. Once the spindles are removed from the beams they'll go right on the the DJM beams. You shouldn't have any troubles fitting the rest of the system either.

Oh, and make sure you get the dust sheilds!! They are harder than hens teeth to find. If they are bent, staighten them. I tossed mine because I thought I could get new ones. Big mistake. :o

OK thanks for the heads up. I also was thinking, do I need the drag link and tie rod also? Thanks again.

Be careful… I believe that you will need to find 73-74 with disc brakes to work with your DJM beams you have on there now… The king pins changed size in 75-79 so they will not interchange… Read the Fordification Tech article for more info http://www.fordification.com/discbrakes01.htm

$150 (or less) will get you all new Drag Links and Tie Rod Ends. If you are doing all that then why skimp on the steering.

Also be sure to grab the Brake Hose Brackets form the '73-'74.

You need a 73-74 donor truck. The kingpins will be a different size on the later models.
