3 speed stickin in 3rd

when I got my truck the only thing that I hated was that it go stuck in third when you stopped at times. Obviously, I can downshift and get in all the gears (normally) but sometimes it just stays in third. It may be my column, but I am missing a bushin in the long arms that comes off the column. I believe thats actually the 3rd gear and reverse? Would it make sense for the truck to stay in gear if the bushing is bad?

Column shifters can bind easily if not adjusted correctly. If you're missing a bushing then I doubt you're adjustment is correct.
