Ford power steering box seals

Post by RTG_RACING »

Well I have tried to trade my complete power steering box setup from my 68 for a manual setup and nobody wants to so now I guess I am keeping it. I need to know if I can get seals for this box at local auto parts stores. parts like the lower seal and the imput shaft seal. Mine leaks a little bit and thats to much for me. Is this about the only place they leak? Thanks for the help.

I have a few Manual boxes that you can have for $10 + shipping.

Is your Box a Saginaw (Long) or a Bendix (short)?
What engine do you have the Pump on?

How much leaking is "a little bit"? I can't imaging trading power for manual, unless you just wont be driving it much.

Depends on what you mean by long or short. It is as long as the box on my 77 2wd. Looks just like it. Im not changing it because of the leak. I just like manual steering. It's cleaner looking plus no pump to rob the motor. do i need a new colum for manual steering?

If you have the Bendix box going to manual steering you don’t have to change the column as it is the same length but the other box is longer so the column is shorter.

National Parts Depot and Dennis Carpenter have seal kits for input shaft as well as for segment shaft.

If it's the saginaw box, the lower outout shaft might leak. If and when you have to replace tha seals remember there are two sets of seals sandwiched up in there.
