Front Coil springs

Post by MadMaxetc »

OK I have an F250 with F-100 I beams from a 75.

I am using the Front Springs from the 250 suspention that are for a 352V8, but I am running a 300 six.

Right now I have WAY to much + Camber! I would like to keep the 250 load capability for teperary heavy loads around town.

So My question is...What sould I do? Does the 250 have a differant spring rate? Should I cut some of the coil out to correct it? Should I get 100 I6 Springs?

What do you guys think???

OK so according to LMC there is no differance between the 100 ond 250 springs for a I6. Only for a V8.

Is there any way to tell the differance? Part # on them anyplace?

There's no part number stamped into the springs. IIRC though, the larger springs have a slightly larger wire diameter. The next time I'm at the shop and have the camera, I'll do some comparisons between the springs I have and see what kind of difference there is.

Trimming a coil or two off the springs will fix the problem and lower it a little, but it's also going to make the front end ride a little harsher...just an FYI.

I didn't think about the lowering part. Good point.

I don't want to lower it.

Hey Keith, while we're on this subject...my tires are wearing on the inside. Does that mean I have the opposite problem?

Yes, that means the tops of your tires are tilted in, so they're riding on the inside edge. Since the camber is built in, it won't change...so that means either someone has installed lowered (or trimmed) springs or that your existing springs have simply worn out and are collapsing.

However, I'd first check the kingpins. If they're extremely worn, they'll cause the same thing.

Hmmm. I don't think it's the kingpins as everything is nice and tight up front.
Should I replace the springs or will those helper clamp thingies?? :o or whatever they're called do?

Come to think of it,it's gotta be the springs. The left fender is a little closer to the rubber than the right. Maybe it's a little more tired than the other one.

If it's an FE engine in your truck, it's possible. The engine is slightly offset in the front on the FE trucks, so the passenger and driver side springs are slightly different in spring rate (OEM anyways).

Just can't remember which side it is offset too, but I THINK it's the passenger side. (IIRC it was due to the steering column location, but I'm not positive)

Might be the same, but I'm not sure about the small block V8's.

Best thing to do would be to check partsamerica.com or rockauto.com for your parts, and see if they are different part #'s.

Also check LMC, D.C., etc, in the links above, as they also have OEM replacement stuff, along with their re-pop items.

65-79 used 2 differant springs for both the 150 & 250

One for a I6 and one for a V8

I am going to order the I6 springs (everything else is new, why not springs?)

I will have a good set of V8 ones avalible soon.

Bo-YA!

Found the springs from my 79 that the 300 came out of.

I will try those to see if they fix it.

Yup, the offset is to the passenger side.Steering column is part of the reason. So are pedals. It also allows for a better driveshaft angle. :)
