will the U-bolts hold the axle for towing without welding the perches on??

re: U-bolt strength
Maybe if you were towing it across the yard or loading it onto a trailer, but definitely not out on the highway. The perch not only keeps the rearend housing from spinning, but also keeps is from sliding forward or back.
You might try it and get lucky...but for the sake of the other folks on the highway, don't go over 5 MPH.

re: U-bolt strength
Look out
the run away axle

Yea didnt really want to waste a set of perches but looks like I will have to, I need to tow it with the original axle then changing it to another so will have to do the perches twice (the spring width in the rear is now 3") at least the first ones dont have to be set to the correct pinion just welded on....
Then putting a Ford 10.25 in which is also a wider axle and has the speed sensor in it that I will need for the EFI 460 change over
