Steering colum mounting
ok I have a question. I have put the colum back into the truck. I was able to bolt it up just fine however I cant get the outer plate on. This is the plate that mounts to the firewall and has the clamp that fits around it. My issue is the tab that the shift linkage fits into (auto). It hits on the plate. My cab looks like it's mounted where it should be and my colum has room to slide down more but it cant because of the steering box. Any ideas?

Hey RTG...
Not sure... what you got going on.
Are you replacing the same column or using a differant one?
I know that differant columns use differant collars.
If everything is the same, try unbolting the interior support and doing the exterior one first. That is the one that determines which angle the steering column will be on the inside.
It might take two people to do that, but certainly worth a try...
Good luck,

Are you sure the Rag joint is all the way on? Do you have the bolt through?
Mine was like you are saying and then I gave it a whack to get the bolt through and that gave me the room I needed.

If you're going from manual steering to power steering you'll need to swap the firewall flange. Check out the tech articles. Keith has some pics in there of the two different kinds.
If you're not changing the steering, then I have no clue what's wrong.

Thats where I went wrong. I got this truck and it was sombodys project. It was missing about half the bolts to hold everything togeather, I had to go to the junk yard to get the firewall plate and must have gotten the wrong one. I am just going to modify it to work i guess.
