I need some help Identifying my frame. All I could get off the frame was F374 which I believe was the last 4 numbers on the passenger side in front of the cross member, just like the pictures show for a 2x4. Anyway, I am trying to figure this out because the frame has disc brakes on the front. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Scott

re: Frame ID
That is the first 4 numbers of the VIN, but doesn't sound right. Should be F35 for the first three digits, and the 4 would indicate the engine family for that series of truck, which doesn't sound right (at least for the `67-`72 trucks).
Might be a dentside frame? Any more numbers/letters to that VIN, particularly the last 6 digits (always starts with a letter for these older vehicles)

re: Frame ID
Dug around a little, this is what I found:
http://www.fordification.com/data-1972.htm
About 2/3rds of the way down the page, found the "model codes". Looks like that is actually the model code for an F350 Chassis Cab (rated for 10,000lbs GVW) meaning it was a truck delivered without a standard bed on it (pretty much frame rails only, to mount a box or flat bed too) for heavy duty hauling.
How big is it compared to a regular frame, lengthwise? It's going to be pretty stout, that's for sure.

re: Frame ID
Thanks Paul but it definitely has 5 lug rotors and it doesn't look any stouter than the one under my '68. I will dig around under the cab and see if I can come up with anything else.
Thanks
Scott

re: Frame ID
Scott, Do you know the history behind your truck? There may be a chance the body is on a dentside frame. If you aren't sure measure the width of the rails at the rear of the truck. All bumps are 34" wide. 4x2 dent frames are 37.5" wide.Hope this helps.

The VINs for Slicks, Bumps and Dents are as follows...
F##XXX#####
Like F10YRA55555 or F25GHF35555 etc...
On the frames they stamped a * on eather side of the VIN as well.
What I think you may be seeing is *F##XXF374##*
<REFERANCE>
Maybe F374 is for June of 1969 and you are just missing the last 2 #.
Meaning that you are only seeing the Middle of the VIN.
The VIN is also on the frame under the CAB on the pasenger side. Some times you can get a small wire brush up there and use a mirror to read it.
Hope this helps.

re: Frame ID
Thanks for the info guys. My plans are to raise the cab and try to pull the numbers under it this weekend. All I know is the the frame looks the same as the one under my '68 but now that I have measurements I will check that also.
