can i splice into rear brake line?

Im still working on my power disc swap, and i am currently running brake lines. i was wondering if i could somehow splice into my rear brake line. my proportioning valve is going to be on top of the steering box and the manual valve is(as most of you know) inside the frame rails. so can i just run a length of line down past that point and tie it into the old line with a coupling joint without having to run new line all the way to the back??

On the 67 I did I located the prop valve as close to the original splitting block as possible, the tube for the rear brakes was a few inches to long. I cut the tube and put a new double flair where i needed it.
You can cut the tube anywhere you like and use a brass compression fitting to splice in tube from Prop valve.

project DONE!! WHEW!! i did use a compression fitting and i now have a f100 that will stop. but when i bled the rear it didnt seem like i was getting enough fluid at each wheel, it would just dribble out. i think the fitting might be restricting fliud flow. mabe i tight'n down on it to much??

I have had bleeder screws plugged in the past. I would remove, inspect, and then bleed the system again. The bleeder screw only need to be tight enough not to leak or fall out, I would not over tighten. Kind of like an oil pan drain plug, no need to over do it.

)Hey TD and Wes, I've been reading this thread and noted both of you discussing the use of compression fittings in brake lines.You might want to reconsider as Federal Motor vehicle standards require double flares on brake tubing.I agree the Feds have their noses in entirely too many things but if you are ever in an accident and your truck is inspected for safety violations you may find your self in big trouble over a fitting.I don't know how things are done where you live but in Pa. a compression fitting in a brake line is an automatic fail during the annual safety inspection.

Yeah you are probably correct. I would imagine someone would have to seriously hurt or die, be fore DOT would look then the compression fitting would need to be the failure. I can do use a double flair w/ a brass female coupler. The 1 thing the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia doesn't have is annual or bi annual safety inspections. Thou if you built 1 from scratch (new frame) it would have to be inspected.

No safety inspections, holy wow.With the way California hammers long haul trucks in the scale houses I would have thought they inspected everything on wheels.We have drivers who refuse loads to California because they don't want to deal with the from the creeper cops.

We had inspections back in the '70s, but as I heard it Ca had too many cars on the road for the HP to keep up so they gave it up.
They'll never stop on the semis though, too much gravy there.

they nail the semis so much because of the large number of illegal immigrants that run crappy trucks that are barely held together. They are trying to rid them out. I have to repair these so called "bad" parts all the time as its my job. I work for a trucking company.
