chassis swap

Post by RIDGERUNNER »

i am wanting to put power brakes and power steering in my sons 69 1/2t.... we have a 390 with a c-6...good body... now i have picked up a 78 1/2ton with a 302 and a c-4..wrecked body,,. it has been suggested to me,to swap the chassis'.. in other words put our 390 and the 69 cab and box onto the 78 chassis... my question is will this work without a bunch of adapting parts??? my thinking is, we will have the power brakes and steering already in the 78 chassis along with the rearend we are wanting. 4:11 posi with a 31" spline..... would swapping the motor, trans, and body be the best way to go?? or will it even work????? thanks fellas

its not a direct swap, but i THINK it's possible. There are a few threads about this around somewhere on here. The 71-79 frames get wider the farther back they go, so no bed mounts are going to line up, if the cab mounts even do.

I've got a power brake booster with the brackets for sale for $35.00. Easier than swapping bodies...
