Hydrovac and no brake pedal

Post by Firebird »

hey all,

I'm moving and am trying to get the F500 back up and running so I can bring her to the new house. I got her started and the tires pumped back up, but I have no brake. Pedal floors. I pulled the cover on the reservoir and it was pretty dry, so I filled it up again- it's now level. would air in the line cause NO pedal? Or could it be something else? I'm thinking I should bleed the inlet on the hydrovac and see if that gives me anything, then do a cylinder to cylinder bleed. Any other ideas? I have to get this girl up asap, as there's NO way I can tow a '70 F500 with a 12ft Box! :)

single mc, solid integral reservoir with bolt head cap, Hydrovac 941 under the cab.

Thanks,
Michael

Yeah bleed it out, but check for leaks, The booster shouldn't cause the petal to go to the floor, hydraulic pressure keeps the firm. Air compresses, a single master feeding 4? wheel cylinders could easily have enough air to allow petal to goto floor.

a bad vacumm booster either under the cab and or on the firewall can get brake fluid in it and cause it not to work also. the brake fluid pressure can then go into the engine via vacuum. and you will have no brakes. if the booster diaphram is leaking it will need to be replaced. bleed the system first and find out if you can get brakes before you go replacing stuff though.
