The "GR2's" work ok. The other KYB's blow out. Too stiff.
The "Rancho" ones are good, but pricey.

Re: re: good shocks
That sounds about right. I have Gas-A-Just but I do like a firm ride. I've had several sets of them on various things and they have always given good service. GR2's do ride better.i've been pricing kyb gr-2's for about 30 (rear) to 38 (fornt) locally. does that sound about right?
Well, looks like you have no choice but to find a Lighting to put them onduckryder- iv'e got a full set of bilstiens off a 2000 lightning with about 35k on them- if i could figure out a way to make them work i would.

I'm looking at new shocks, too... my truck bounces like a kickball when it goes over railroad tracks, etc., and sways like a willow.
Hope I'm not guilty of a
, but I have a few questions:
Are the Rancho RS5000's a good shock for our trucks? How do they compare to the Monroes and GR2's? I know they are a bit more expensive than the GR2s (about $10 per corner), and a few bucks more than the Gas-A-Justs, but are they worth it? I'll spend the extra $$ if they're worth it...
RE-EDIT: (I figured out my original edit) I'm looking at the Rancho Fit guide (http://www.gorancho.com/flash/docs/2005_shocks.pdf) and don't see them listing Ford trucks below 1970... am I to assume these will fit my 67 if they fit the 70s? Does anyone know?
If they WILL fit my '67, I'm assuming I'll need RS5136 (front) and RS5115 (rear). Does anyone know if the RS8125 (shim) will be needed?
Help!

FYI... assuming the numbers I posted above will work on my '67 (anyone know?!), these are available from (not through) Amazon.com right now for $42.75 and $41.99 each. And the spacer kit is $12.99, if needed.
With free shipping, that puts these at $169.48 without the spacers, or $184.20 if they are needed.
Also FYI, you can get 20% off at JCWhitney right now on orders over $150, and free shipping.

re: good shocks
Supermike.
The shocks for one end are not the same. I believe (IIRC) it is the rear and the difference is in the way to top mounts.

Others may disagree, but I would not recommend Rancho shocks. I had RS5000s on my '83 F250 and one of the front mounts ripped out of the frame. I had them on my '96 F250. It rode well enough but the bushings on the shocks only lasted a year or two. With the worn bushings there was about 1 inch of spring travel before the shocks even moved. I called Rancho and they sent my new bushings. I installed them and they did the same thing the others had in less than a year. I replaced them with Monroe sensa-trac or something like it. It was they're second from the best shock. I don't like those either. The ride is as Mrs. Flatbedford says "like riding on a rubber ball" Next time I'm going to try Bilsteins. Remember, I'm talking about an HD 4X4 3/4 ton truck so what I'm saying could be useless for a 1/2 ton two wheel drive bumpside.

I finally emailed Rancho to see what they say... thanks for the input Steve, but I've heard so many people say good things about the Ranchos that I'm keeping my options open.
O'REILLY has the MONROE Gas "Magnum" shocks for $39.99 (but currently "buy 3 get one free").
Advance Auto has them for the same price. Both also have a Monroe called the "Monro-Matic Plus" (Gas-Charged) for around $41.00ea.
The KYB GR-2's are $35.94ea, and the Gas-a-Just's are like $48.00
KYB also has a "MonoMax Performance Gas Shock", which are specifically designed to deliver better handling and control for trucks. But at $65.94ea, they are pretty pricy!
I couldn't tell what was what on NAPA's website.
So many decisions!! How do you choose the right one?

re: good shocks
Here's the official response from Rancho... perhaps this will help someone else, too..
Right now, I think I'm leaning toward the KYB GasAJust shocks...[/quote]
Thank you for your interest in Rancho products. We offer shocks for the 67
F-100 4WD, but we do not offer any shocks for the 2WD model. If you have
the 4WD truck you should use the following part numbers.
front - RS5140
rear - RS5118
You will also need RS8125 axle shim kit so that you get enough axle to
shock clearance.
