F250 power steering box question

Post by Kurt Combs »

Because of play in the steering I have taken two full turns on the adjusting screw on the top of my steering box. I have had the front end checked-out and everything seems ok considering it is a 1972 model. I still have a little wonder in the steering wheel. I will be pulling the engine in the next couple of months and would like to take that opportunity to change the box. Does anyone know of a good source for a rebuilt or a reliable shop with a quick turn around time to have mine rebuilt?

i live in a smaller town to and they are buy far the best in town and if you buy alot of parts from them sometimes you can get a cash account were they will give you a discount!!!!! on the parts and you just pay when you get the parts. That is what i have and it saves me alot of money!!!! Oh and when you go in to buy the new one just take in your old one for the core so there is no core charge that has to be refunded and all that crap!!!! The part number for that box is: NSP277504, ~$164.00 (this may be a little higher or lower) And there is a $56 core charge!!!! Hope this helps!!!

Troy,

Your response definitely helps, I had visions of having to send my old box off to someone somewhere I had never heard of with only a promise that it would return in a short amount of time, if ever. With Napa I known they will have the part in 24 hours and we can then make the switch. I am amazed at the price, I thought it would be $250 to $350, so I am happy to know it will not be a big deal, and with the engine out it should be an easy exchange.

Thanks again. Kurt

$150 is not bad at all. A rack will cost you a lot more than that.
