Test equipment for PS pump

Post by swissranger »

I would like to fabricate a PS pump test equipment according to the tool which is described in the Diagnosis and Testing Manual (page 15) on Fordification.
http://www.fordification.com/lit/69-PSp ... manual.htm
All of the needed parts should be obtainable except the calibrated orifice in the bypass. I assume that this orifice is an intermediate piece with an accurate bore of a certain diameter as well as a certain length.
Has anybody access to this Ford tool and could maybe check this orifice detail?
:hmm:

You can buy one for less than the cost to manufacture and find all the
various fittings. "Mac Tools" makes a pretty nice one. I have one and
will post a pic. if your interested. Let me know as I'll have to go find
it out in the garage.

Are you really in Switzerland? Thats cool.

Yes, I am living in Switzerland. It's a nice place to live but a bad place to find parts, tools, know how and other things for our trucks. Maybe I am the only one who has a bumpside truck in this country.

Jake11, I am very interested in your test equipment. Especially if it also has a bypass loop with this orifice detail. I assume that this orifice is specific to the Ford PS pumps.
I already fabricated a test equipment like the style before 1968 without the bypass loop. From this setup I will use the manometer as well as hoses, valves and fittings. I am only needing this tiny orifice part :x

Thanks a lot for your help.

jake11, thanks a lot for the pictures. Your testing equipment is very similar to the one I already have. These types are great to test the relieve pressure of the PS pump but unfortunately not the flow.

I think you got all you really need then. You can test the flow control
valve easy. With the guage inline, turn the wheel left and right. You
should see pressure rise as the box loads the pump. At full stop,
the regulator should open, and bypass. If you close the valve and
deadhead the pump, you should see 800 to 1500 psi, depending
on the calibration. If it pressures ok, the box is probably in need of
an overhaul. Their pretty easy to do. If all is working ok you can spin
the wheel with 1 finger.
