I hit the junkyard JACKPOT !!!

Post by 72stepside »

I think I did very well today. Our local u-pull-it yards have turned into an awful mess. Cheap cars, Dodge trucks, and mini-vans galore. However, today I ventured in to get a proportioning valve for my disc brake upgrade.

(I was the guy griping about my drums pulling me off the road and such. See the below post "Grrrrr!!! Drum Brakes!!!" I've decided to just get to it and get it all changed over to discs.)

Here's what I got...

FOR ONLY $30!!!!

-Black dashpad with NO BLEMISHES, CRACKS, OR HOLES !!!
-Proportioning valve, switch, and brake lines
-Headlight switch that looked brand new
-Instrument cluster with full guages, no dummy lights

According to their price list, this should have been $62, but the guy says "I think $30 will cover it." Forgive my enthusiasm but this is like a Christmas gift to me.

The cluster, switch, and pad came from a 72 F250 that was obviously a company truck. It had a full toolbox type bed arrangement. It had a 390 cid with a 4 speed manual tranny. That is why I was in shock about the dash pad. I figured it would be trashed but nothing was wrong with it!!!!

When I walked up the the 74 which had the proportioning valve, I spotted two guys removing the windshield and back glass from the 72. I was a bit disappointed as I could use a new windshield as well. I saw them carry it off and it was crack and scratch free. I figured they had picked this truck clean. NOPE !!! There was the dash. They did me a huge favor by removing the windshield as this made the pad easy to lift out.

Now it just gotta get it all installed. That will begin in about a week. I should have it finished for the trip to Knoxville and the SuperNATS in a few weeks !!!!!

Are you sure that the pad didn't have a crack? I think you should send it to me to check it out. :)
