brake lights don't work

Post by acer013 »

I have a 70 F100 2wd. My brake lights don't work. Bulbs are fine, wiring seems to be fine. I have narrowed it down to a switch mounted on the brake pedal. I can't seem to unplug it from its socket, very tight conection. Am I on the right track or can it be something else. :hmm:

Fuse?

Could be the plunger switch. Short the wires and see if the lights come on.

Replaced plunger switch, still no go. Fuses are fine. The emergency flashers are on the same fuse and they work properly. Back up lights are also kaput. :?

After checking that you have power at the brake light switch. I would start with the rear taillight buckets. Check grounds. Replace bulbs. Clean sockets. Check power at each connection to the fuse.

Do your blinkers work?

Sometimes if you wiggle the gear selector back and forth a bit in R then they may begin to work, if so take off the sterring wheel and tighten down the two nuts (one on top and one on bottom), thats what mine did once.

Or maybe its just the ground at the tubs.
I can take it apart, but getting it back together is another story!
