Floor pan reinforement end

The floor pan center reinforement end is rusted through under my drivers side floor pan. How difficult is it to replace? Do I just cut the old one out and weld in a new one? Or is there a easier way? My welding skills are weak. :o Thanks for your input.

You mean the support at the rear of the cab?
Those ends are available aftermarket. I have a set I'll sell you if interested.
Measure where the new end comes to, and the cut the old one off, and weld on the new one. Get all the rusted parts off there you can.

Yes, I believe so, It is the one that runs under the floor pan, resembles a tube. I would go take a picture, but the pickup is getting bead blasted. I only need the drivers side, the other side is ok. Is it diffcult to weld? I have a welder, but have little experience.

No, it's not hard to weld, but if you don't have much experience welding I'd get someone that does to help. You'd want to use MIG, not flux core, and preferably do it indoors so the wind doesn't blow away the shielding gas.

That's one of the most commonly rusted-out areas of our trucks, so patch panels for those cab support ends are offered by virtually all the truck parts vendors.

If you haven't already done so, go to the Links page and order (or download) catalogs from the first seven vendors on the page. You could rebuild a truck from the ground up with what all that's available.

What would happen if I used flux core instead of a MIG welder? I suppose it would burn holes? I have a arc welder already and did not want to spend money on another welder.

An arc welder wouldn't be my first choice. They are great for heavier material, but they are a bit much for metal of this gauge. Flux core tends to run hotter than MIG. MIG has the advantage of a shielding gas, which cools the weld, and reduces the chance of burn through on lighter gauge materials.
In your situation, I would try to find somebody who could weld this in for you.
