Tail gate skin
Has anyone replace the lower part of the tail gate with a skin from LMC? My tailgate is in great shape except for the lower outside part. It has many rust holes. Do you have to completely remove the lower skin and weld the new one in? Just curious before I purchase a new one.

re: Tail gate skin
The panel from LMC doesn't include the very bottom part of the tailgate, where it's usually rusted out. If yours is rusted up just a tiny bit higher, then you might be OK...but if it's rusted through in some areas, you can bet that it's almost rusted through in others. You might want to check it out a little closer, and maybe think about trying to find a replacement tailgate instead.
Can you post a pic of your tailgate showing where it's rusted out?

re: Tail gate skin
The tailgate on my '68 looked pretty good till it was sandblasted. It was cheese. I had no idea by looking at it. If you already see rust it's usually worse. And almost impossible to weld a new skin over it. Look for a new gate is the route I'd take. LOL

Yep, I'd venture to say that if you were to poke a screwdriver anywhere along that bottom, in areas where it doesn't appear to be rusted, the screwdriver will go through. You can try the patch panel/skin, but I think you're going to be happier finding a better tailgate to work with. Just my ![2 cents :2cents:](./images/smilies/icon_2cents.gif)

Thanks Keith, that is what I thought but wanted some advice. What about buying one from one of the vendors? They are rather pricey, but may have to go that route.

re: Tail gate skin
Just a thought for you my dad used to get some parts made in a heat and ac metal shop they can bend it just like you want it and make it long enough to seam under the molding. You will also need to flange the tail gate to make the repair cleaner.
