Some Axle Help Please

Post by FoMoCo »

Hey all, to start, I'm working on a 69 LWB 360 w/3.03. Last week I removed the 3 speed in favor of the "ford" OD. This is the same trans I swapped into my 67 stepside and had NO modification issues. I have come to find out that the 3speed in my 67 and the 3 speed in my 69 had differenty tails. The 67's tail was about 6 inches longer and had a slip yoke. The 3 speed in the 69 LWB had the nutted yoke.

To make the long-short my 2-peice drive shaft is about 6 inches to long. I've been given prices around 150 to shorten my shaft and balance them togather. OR... Local yards want 50 dollars for shafts. With the trans slip yoke pulled out about one inch it's 70.25 inches from center to center of the u-jionts. What might swap, I was going to go look at some econolines and late model f-seriers this friday. Any other ideas.

I'd keep the two piece setup, if the junk yard has one go for it. The single shaft is too long, JMHO.

too bad you're so far away. i have a single that came out of a 66 lwb. you might look in the yards for an auto slick lwb.

I pulled the 352 / 3-speed / two piece drive shaft out of my '67 and
dropped in a 360 / c6 / one piece drive shaft out of a '76 and it fit well.
