Your comments don't surprise me..
For fun go to Craigslist.org, go to Seattle and search on Ford under car parts.
Then go to Pittsburgh or Cleveland and do the same thing.
I used to live in Seattle and saw bumpsides everywhere... here in PA, there are only 2 on the road that I know of... and none in the Junk yards.
We have salt and rust you can't imagine... I couldn't until I moved here.
As for the honda wheel... If I find one that fits, works well and meets my needs, you can be damn sure I will use it.

i am not going to take offense at your remarks.
i will just keep dragging home all the unwanted bumps and slicks i find, either for free or by getting paid to do it. thats how i manage to get them all.
i cant really consider myself a purist as such as i have mixed years and engines of the slicks and bumps due to a budget of i have to use whats here.we dont have any money, just what we own.
since all we drive is bumps or slicks and own nothing else and not planning on ever doing so, i just keep hunting them down.one of the reasons we live here is that no one can give us a hard time about how many we have. not everyone has that option, and i imagine the yards down there have been regularly crushed, thereby eliminating valuable sources.here they mostly sit where they stopped running, not many folks are willing to pay to have them hauled 60 miles to the nearest yard but i will make them go away for free, thus i can usually have them.
i only take fords from the 50s,60s and 70s for free.everything else i get a minimum of $150 to dispose of and i dont bother stripping them.if a friend needs a chebby or other brand part from a junker,i let him come get it but i have taken lots of them running and driveable to the junkyard.
one year i got backed up into the road and had to get rid of a couple mid 70s highboys and a running van because i was out of room.the open knuckle and married with auto trans ones went to the salvage yard as i had no need for those parts and the engines were toasted and the bodys whacked.i had a choice to make and chose to keep what matched the other running trucks.
i hope what you plan on doing works for you as i really have no ill feelings towards anyone here and since we all know there are differing opinions and have made them well known leave it at that and move on.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

It's always been my belief that the east coast is a goldmine for 4x4 axles because the chassis outlasts the rest of the truck. Every time I search "ford dana" on ebay 9 out of 10 of the auctions are on the east coast.
The NW is a gold mine for complete old 4x4's though. I'm pretty sure we have more old 4x4 trucks per capita here than any other place in the world. You can drive through small towns in central oregon and washington and EVERYBODY has a bumpside or two or three in thier driveway.

Ice,
First, my comments we not made to offend.. Just offer a different perspective.
To your points, I wish I had that option... Here it is not the crusher, but the salt...
Bump sides just don't exist around here... there are only a couple dent sides, and even the 80 up are hard to find in the JunkYards.
There is one 77 Hiboy in a yard I know, but the front axle is stripped and buried in the mud...
Use what you have, not what you don't. Some of the people here remind me of the mustang crowd about 20 years ago... everything had to be NOS or Ford... Now, no one cares if the parts are ford or repo, and the high dollar builders are using whatever is best. Do you ridicule those folks that choose to put a 9" in their brand x car? Nope... most of us admit the choice is the best available... so why is what I am doing any different. Are repo parts really any different than brand x... do you only buy parts at the dealer?
As for the cost, I am into it about $75... I still need a rotors, calipers and hoses, but I can buy them one piece a payday... figure it would be the same for a good brake job on any front end.
I have't found a yard yet that will let me pay for a front end (if I could find one) on a payment plan....
If you ever look at your truck and ask 'why the hell did they do that' then you should understand why I use the best parts available to me... in this case, chevy disks... They are on a DANA front end, so who really cares....
Anyway, off the soapbox.. fix it well, drive it right.
Eric

OK guys. Please leave it alone. Next warning gets the post locked.
71PA_Highboy asked a fine question and AGAIN we are all intitled to our own opinion, but lets not make a mountain out of a mole hill. Lets continue on with the post.
