How do I find the front wheel center and mark the frame as such? Is the king pin the center? If you were switching from 2wd to 4wd you would need to mark the frame where the front tire was so as to get it back in the same place. This is what I need to do. Make sense?
IS the coil spring braket on top centered? I was marking the frame on each side of it and taking the middle of that distance. Is this going to get me the right spot?
i am a bit confused.
are you trying to put a 4x4 front axle under your 2wd truck?
is your 2wd an f100 and the 4x4 axle from an f100 4x4?
if so and if you have ALL of the pieces from the 4x4 axle including the springs and radius arms it should and will center itself in the proper position.
if you are doing something else explain or post a pic and i will see if i can help.

I'm trying to locate the center of the front wheel and mark the frame before I remove my suspension. That way when I install my new suspension I can relocate the wheel base in the same location. (Thats another post I dont want to get into here, you can bash me on my project update page later.)
The reason I mentioned 4wd I figured you would know what I meant that I needed. I didnt realize that 4wd parts would align themselves. My mistake. sorry.
Is the upper spring pocket centered with the wheel? meaning the the center of the upper spring perch is center of wheel as well.
only way the front suspension would not go back in the same place by itself is if its not a twin i-beam/radius arm suspension.
i can go out and look at a 2wd truck in my yard and see but i am pretty sure the coil spring is in the center of the axle. it would not work correctly if it wasnt

thanks Iceman, that is what I needed to know for sure. And no I am not using twin I beam any more. THats why I want to be VERY sure I am marking my frame correctly.
Check out the Body Builder's Layout Book...it's got all the factory blueprint specs and measurements you'll need.
Our trucks' front-wheel centerline is 30.70" from the front of the frame.

Thanks Keith, I was actually just lloking at that and trying to figure out if that was from the frame horn or the bumper. That would have been my next post, , now you're reading minds. On that same picture what is the 33 inch measurement back to? Is that to the front door jamb?
I always figured that between the I beams and Radius arms with new Bushings would center itself even two wheel drive unless its completely tweaked or are you removing the shock towers and all?

I'm not sure what that measurement is for....that's from a factory manual, I believe they're showing that as the rear of the dash? It appears that they're measuring from the axle centerline to the rearmost part of the dash (which would be covered by the dash pad).
...they're also showing the front axle centerline as being 18.55" from the firewall.

all you have to do is get a plumb-bob and a marker. align the bob and make a mark on the frame.
when you install the new suspension, make sure to use this mark to set it up right.

or to look at it another way, its 22.1 inch rearward from the body hole (core support hole, I think) shown in the upper drawing. (40.65-18.55)
