One more question! If anyone can give me any information about my air cleaner, I would appreciate it. It doesn't look stock to me... at least, not as I recall it or have seen pictured here.

Reiterating that I am no master of the engine, what is the cylindrical metallic object coming off the side? And am I assuming correctly that the holes around it are to increase air intake? Seems they would make it whistle a tune...

since the 352 360 and 390 are all the same block i would assume the same would hold true for the headers not fitting with the "saggy" box.

if i remember correctly, bendix is plug and play for the manual fomoco
manual box, you shouldnt need to change out the column, you will need
to acquire a harm. bal. with an extra groove for ps pump

go with the saginaw box it is better all the way around anyway. you can buy the boosters at the parts store and the air cleaner looks like it has two different ones put together to make one. that shiny top is from a later model dent side truck the holes probably had something attahed to it. use rubber plugs to close them up if you want.

One other item you will need to install PS on your truck is a left side engine perch that has the proper notch in it to clear the box.

This is starting to sound pretty complex for a guy that has a half set of tools.

So far I need a '73-79 Ford and a left side engine perch?

Assuming I find those, now I just need to find someone with enough mechanical experience to pull it apart put it in.

fordman -- any reason I should plug those holes, or just if they whistle? I don't really think they will, but if they do I guess I could replace the whole shebang with something shiny or something stock.

the cylindrical object protruding from the side is smog control vaccuum garbage.
the whole air cleaner without the extra holes can be found easily in a junkyard or maybe from someone close by in the forum.

Thanks for the info... I was wondering. I'll have to have someone give it a once-over for me and give me some advice on what I can or should change. If I can't find a decent '67 stock air cleaner, I guess I can always put a showy K&N or shiny FoMoCo cleaner on.

i apologize Supermike, for the confusion. I'm a little confused myself

I have a 67 daily driver also, it sounds like we're doing all the same mods
too. I'm starting with power brakes though.


The saginaw is much better from what I gather just harder to install.
Your gonna need mounting brackets also, just pull the column too when you find them.

I found out the hard way about header clearance problems. I had to take 3/4 of an inch out of the back tube. Glad my buddy has a TIG welder set-up! Link to the thread is here

The original air filter was an oil bath type. That's probably why it was changed. The paper type is cleaner and easier to maintain, but not necessarily better.

71 LONG BED, thanks for the additional clarification on the header clearance problems and the air filter. If the one that's on the truck works, I see no need to swap it out right now unless it's decreasing my performance.

i bought a running rusted out '78 f100 for $250, all it needs is a carb, radiator and throw out bearing. it was my DD until the throw out bearing went out. now its a parts truck.
