Inverting rear spring front hangers

Post by wt4speed#2 »

Hey all

I opened up a can of worms . I have began the task of inverting the front rear hangers. I am aware that the pinion angle will have to be adjusted and the driveline possibly cut down (geez I know some one that can get that done ). I have discovered that there are other issues , and when I figure these out , this is going to be a fairly mindless task next go round(ha ain't doin this crap again). In preparing fore the job I pb blasted all the fasteners and muck to my surprize everyone wrench well barring 2 or 3 that had to be persuaded (20" cheater),a must for every "bumpside " Technician. After cutting the factory rivets the curb-side hanger came off effortlessly. End bushing in both ends of both sorings and centerbolts to be replaced.

Now the de-lemon , remounting the hanger . Should I mount hanger with bushing bolt hole on same center line as original position at my desired height? Should the bushing bolt hole be move to the rear or front at a ratio comparable to the height change ? Any suggestions ?

Thanks
Tony B

As to mounting it farther up or down, that's entirely your choice, until you achieve the amount of drop you want. You don't want to attempt moving it forward or back, since that'll limit the amount of spring travel you have at the shackles.

Basically you just want to pivot the whole rear suspension using the rear mount as the pivot point. The front bushing hole will pivot in an arc with the rear bushing hole serving as the center of the arc. The easiest way is to get the unsprung weight off the springs (have it up on jackstands) so that the springs are completely relaxed, then just spin the bracket around 180 and bolt it back up to the frame, making sure you have 1/2"-3/4" between the top of the mount and the bed floor.

Then, as you mentioned, you'll have to correct the pinion angle.

You won't be able to flip the rear bracket, only the front. For the rear you'll have to go with lowering shackles....which of course means you can't use the Flex-o-matic setup....which of course means you'll need the non-Flex-o-matic (standard) springs.
