truck turns to right when stopping

Post by huntinfordman »

My '67 f100 turns pretty bad to the right when I go to stop. I have put new spring kits on my brakes along with new shoes and had my drums turned. Although my brake petal starts to pusleate a day or so after having them turned and I have adjusted the brakes multiple times.
Is there any other things that can be causing the truck to jerk like this.
Thanks

Matt

pulsating is unequal fluid pressure i think. the right side is adjusted tighter than the left. they need to be adjusted equally. when they were turned how close to the end tolerances were each drum? were they equal in inside diameter or was on turned more than the other.

You might want to remove the drum and check to see if the wheel cylinder started leaking.Break fluid on shoes will all but break your arm in a hard stop when the steering wheel jerks. Also,I am not sure but I think one shoe pad is longer than the other. You could have one side reversed if that is the case.

Thanks for the help guys, I never measured the diameter of each drum after having them turn. Also I will check to see if the shoes are on the wrong side. I figured the vibration was from a wrap drum, I didn't know if at one time they got to hot and lost there temper. I was going to get new drums as a next step, but I will for sure try the other things first.

Thanks again. :fr:
Thanks

You might also want to change out the rubber lines. Even though they look ok on the outside, they might have swollen on the inside. If one side is swollen and allowing less fluid to the brake cylinder you would get a pull.

Yeah I have replace the front and back rubber lines, everything has been replaced on the brake system except for the metal brake lines.
Thanks

the first thing to check is the radius arm bushings. if they are shot you get bump steer or a wicked pull when braking.
WHAT ?

well my 67 did kinda of the same thing.. but it pulled to the left when i hit the brakes i found out later it was because the wheel cylinders were bad. replaced those and drove right on down the road hit the brakes and bam it did it again.........your front end alignment might be out or as other people have already stated the shoes might be put on wrong. thats what i would check first is those three things

If it pulsates the drums are out of round. They got cut too thin or something. Pulling on a drum front end? Could be a lot of different
things. Usually it's a frozen/siezed brk. cylinder. I could go into this
and write a book.

Look at-- Hot spots in drum---adjustment-----springs-----
Bonded lining=JUNK! get Bendix riveted. Raybestos=JUNK!
Not opinion, fact. Look at the side of the lining. It has name and
brand.

If theres little blue spots on the center of the drums, There junk.
Throw them away.
