Front spring noise
Heres one for the real gear head.
72 camper special, has a noise from the front end that happens on even the smallest bumps and sometimes on smooth road.
Sounds like a resonance in the front right coil.
I have dead blow hammered the hell out of the truck and cant replicate it on the driveway.
I have put in new radius arm bushings and new shocks as well as reconnoitered the I-beams and all of the bushings are tight.
Are these trucks prone to twanging coils?? Or is there something I've overlooked??

Did you have this noise before you replaced the radius arm bushings and shocks or did it only start after?

is it a dinging sound or is it a deeper sound than that? i have 93 f150 that was making a dinging sound in the same area. dingale lingle dink. evertime i hit a bump. it sounded like the shock was loose or dinging together. it turned out it was the king bolt was loose letting the washer inside the spring dingle link around when i hit a bump. i tightened it up and it quit making noise. the previous mechanic wasn't such a good mechanic after all. he couldn't even find the noise when the previous owner had the truck.

re: Front spring noise
Had the noise when I bought the truck. There is nothing loose on the spring mounts. Noise is not a "dingle ingle ingle" More of a "going ch-ch-cch"

The spring is attached to the top of the spring tower with a small metal strap and two bolts. Make sure those bolts are tight and that metal strap is secure. Also make sure the spring is properly seated in the spring tower.
Did you pull the brake drum off and check under there? You might have some brake components loose and vibrating.

I believe this to be the case, my truck has the vented rotors, (disk) and as I was coming home this am down a fairly bumpy hill I noticed that while riding the brakes the noise was absent.
This leads me to believe that the isolators on the caliper mount bolts are deteriorated to the point of allowing slop in the mount. I know that the "anti-rattle spacers" for the pads are good as I replace the pads around 3 mo's ago. The isolators were intact but worn so I re-greased them and reinstalled. Should've replaced them then.
I've ordered the isolators and they should be here around noon.
Will update.

Update is that the local parts store doesnt have them and cant get em. Thankfully I am 40 miles from LMC, it looks in the catalog as though their kit has them.
I pulled the front wheels and checked the calipers. There is a small amount of movement. Hopeing that this is in fact the noise.

OK, got home from LMC, their kit had the sleeves in them unlike the parts store.
Had to drill out the remnants of the old one and hone the hole to allow the new one to slide in. Pasted it with "salt water proof grease" to facilitate future maintainance.
Apparently this was the issue. Just enough slop to allow the calipers to move.
Problem solved.
However as with anything else fixing one problem leads to another. Now I can hear the change in my ashtray slide around and I can hear the handle of my lunchpail flopping.
Whats a man to do??
