Can I put 70 F350 disk brakes on my 72 F250 Camper Special

Post by dablack00 »

I picked up the front and rear suspension from a F350. It was a running driving truck. My 72 F250 CS needs a brake rebuild. It already has disc brakes on the front. Can I take the complete I-beam assy (I-beam/radius arm/brakes) from the F350 and put them on my F250? I was going to put in all new rubber at the same time. Do the F250/F350s share the same bushings (ibeam/radius arm)?

thanks

there is something about a change in the pitman arm in mid 71 that could stop you from doing it. and you'll have to get rims from a f350 arent the lugs alrger on the f350

I don't know if the lugs are bigger or not. I've got rims from the truck w/ the suspension (see pics in project update) so that won't be a problem, but I wanted to run the stock rims. I guess I'm just going to have to rebuild the brakes that I have.

Does anyone know for sure. Can I put the front suspension/brakes from a F350 on a F250?

thanks

what GVW?

ya it will work but the early pined pad calipers suck, they often seize up and drag. what I would recommend is looking in to the 74 and later calipers and caliper mounts & brake pads, they are way cheeper, much better, and more available.

your rotors will inter change for the most part, as long as to got the single F350 rotors that is. look out for left hand thread lugs thought.

if you run the f350 front springs they can ride a little harder to.

Ok, I'm thinking I'm just going to save the F350 front suspension for something else. I might use the F350 rear w/ my F250 CS springs.

Now, are you saying if I rebuild the front brakes on my F250, that I should get calipers from a newer truck?

thanks

it depends if you got the pin stile calipers, the calipers have two 1/4" pins that goes through the pads then in to the caliper housing, they suck, and cost twice as much, as the newer stile.

But with the newer stile ones you need to change the caliper mount to match the caliper they ran from 74 ish to 79 on f250s and f350s. the newer calipers are used all the way in the 90's so they are cheep and easy to get new/rebuilt.

Leadfoot,

Ok so if I have the two pin style caliper on my F250 CS then I should probably change over to the newer caliper, but to do that, I need the 74ish and up caliper mount. Is this correct. I just want to make sure.

Here is what I'm thinking. If I have the old two pin style caliper on my F250 CS, I will just use the F350 ibeams/radius arms/disc combo. The F350 stuff is rebuilt and good to go. Came off a running driving F350.

If I have the newer style caliper on my F250 CS, then I will just buy new calipers and have the rotors turned and buy new or repack the bearings/seals.

Is this a good plan?

thanks for the help. I'm new to the F250/350 world. I've only had F100s in the past.

sounds like a good plan, and yes the newer caliper mounts are like '74 up for sure
