Disk brake proportioning valve location question

Post by dcbullet »

I am in the middle of my disk brake swap. When I was getting ready to mount the proportioning valve, I noticed there were already two holes in the crossmember that were the right distance apart for the mounting bracket. I assume they are there for the F250 disk brake proportioning valve and all the crossmembers (even for the F100) have them?

So I mounted up the proportioning valve to the crossmember at that location and it seems awful tight on the left side, where the brake line from the rear will attach.

So, any of you who have done this, did you have and use the existing holes on your crossmember? I was originally going to mount it about 1 inch lower to the right.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is one mounting location. The other being on the crossmember. I've got all the lines and the bracket to mount it on the crossmember so that's where I'd like to put it.

well sound like some very careful bending or some brass fittings to make the turn.

Yes, it may and I might have to just give it a shot.

I was sorta interested if someone who has done the swap used the two existing holes in their crossmember to mount the prop valve or if they mounted it lower.

I figured out there isn't enough room so I drilled two more holes about 1 1/4" to the lower right. I don't know what the two stock holes are for...

Well yeah, I'm sure the 78 crossmember had the holes in the right spot. :D So did the 77 I got the front end from.

Maybe the holes in my 68 are in the right spot too but I could never get the brake line and fitting to fit in the space on the left. Plus I had to drill the holes out one size to fit the bolts so maybe the 68 F250 prob valve was different? :hmm:

It's been my experience that the '73-'77 trucks had a large proportioning valve located on a bracket mounted on top of the steering box, while the '78-'79 trucks' pieces were smaller and were mounted at the rear of the front crossmember.

I have a 77 and mine is located on the crossmember directly under the master cylinder towards the front of the truck. It is really hard to see from top.
