4wd C6 vs. 2wd
I've come upon a '74 C6 out of a Highboy 4x4. The seller wants $250 and says it's been rebuilt. My '69's a 2wd with C6. both trucks are 360, but I know the tailshaft is different, as it has no hole for the speedo cable. What is involved in swapping my 2wd tailshaft? Are there any other differences?

The tailshafts are an easy swap if the 2wd doesn't have the keeper inside that holds the output shaft in. the 4x4 will come right out for sure as well as most trucks so you might be safe. Contact fordfool he'll be INTERESTED in the tailshaft and housing.

That C6 better have a snap ring holding the tailshaft in. 2wds need to be taken apart to swap tailshafts.

The guy at my tranny shop told me the 4x4 applications don't have the snap ring because of the shorter shaft and there is a bearing in place to hold it but the 2wd's sometimes and the cars 4 sure have the snap ring. I ran into this trying to swap out a car tranny and my 4x4 C6 just by switching tailshafts.... Not happening, you have to take the car one mostly apart and he said there still might be some variations in some of the internal parts by what years the 2 are produced.
