new to the forum... questions about ford pickups...

Post by tsmay51 »

I am new to this forum but not new to forums in general. I have always liked the body style and cosmetics of the ford 67 to 72 model. I have been riding dirtbikes as a hobby for many years now. I am 40 years old and have hurt myself on bikes for the last time. Throwing in the towel. I have always wanted one of these fords to tinker with and have decided to sell the bike and find me one of these jewels for a hobby. I have ran across a couple for less than $800.00. They are rough but that's kinda what I am looking for. I want to restore one the way I want it anyway. Is there any certain things I should look for in one of these trucks. Any flaws I need to focus on? Certain engines to stay away from? Anything? Thanks in advance...

As with anything that is 40 years old check for rust in the cab corners, floorboards, cab mounts, bed, and along the drip rail of the cab. Other than that, try to find one from a guy who took care of it, did regular maintenance.

Most of the engines ran like a top.. the 302, the 300, the FE's (352, 360, 390). The biggest thing is how well the previous owner took care of the truck.

Did they cut/splice the wiring harness.. did they rig up all kind of additions/repairs... Cange the colum shift to floor mount and do a crap job of it...

Do a thorough check before you buy and drive it around. If it looks decent, rides/drives decent and under 1k go for it!

the 390 or 351 engines seem to be favorites. I have a 360 and never felt like I needed anything more.

Consider what options you want your truck to have, too. Power steering, disk brakes, air conditioning, dual tanks...all can be added to a truck that came without them, but if those things are important to you, try to find a truck that has them.

Welcome, your in the right place for '67 to '72 F100's!! Also check the drip rails. They tend to rust up there, :D on trucks that have sat for long periods of time.

:wel: to the site. I know you will be excited when you get your truck. This body style is way cool. Some of us on here have 2, 3 or more of these trucks. I have two myself, a 68 - 360 and a 69 - 390.
