brake booster help

Post by boots »

Today I got everything mounted for my power brake swap. I found out that since I have a 70's f150 master cylinder, the line for the rear is too large to fit the hole, but the line for the front fit fine. I thought id go ahead and test it all out just buy filling up the front with fluid. When I press down the pedal it goes down with little force, and the breaks would not engage and my engine had a rough idle when I pressed it down. Would this happen becuase I dont have the rear line hooked up to the master cylinder? Also the part where the hose connects to the booster seems a little loose, but I cannot feel anything coming out of it when the pedal is pressed down.

This is really bugging me so I went ahead and took the stock master cylinder (not the one from the f150 in the pictures) and tried to mount it to the booster. It wont let me slide it into the booster without engaging. I need about a 1/2" more room, I try to slide it in and it will make me push , and then start pushing fluid out of the master cylinder.

you may have to use the m/cyl that came with the booster. to hook up the rear line use a brass fitting to adapt the line size to fit the cyl. the booster won't have anything coming out of it. it should be vacuumed out by the vacuum of the engine when hooked up to the intake and the engine running. as far as running rough with brake applied. you will probably have to readjust your engine because of the extra vacuum thats now being pulled. if you do all of this it might work out. if not let us know.
