Power Steering Problems

Post by BigRedTruck »

My truck's power steering is acting weird before it warms up. Is this typical? I don't remember is happening before it was rebuilt. It's a bendix box. When it's warm, I don't have any problems.

Was it refilled with Type F transmission fluid? Is it all foamy before it warms up?
The usual cause of Ford PS whine is air. But Im wondering if wrong type fluid can cause problems too.

You might take it somewhere and have the system flushed. The pump on my Taurus was really noisy until i had it flushed. Can't even hear it now.

Try this, get some lucas power steering additive and add just alittle, jack up the front wheels completely off the ground and turn the wheel back and forth, stopping before you hit the stops, this will get the rest of the air out and believe it or not the lucas power steering additive does really work.
