Power brake swap?

Post by Hazmoid »

I recently purchased a '72 f100 custom, it needs a lot of work and I am trying to "prioritize". I would like to install power brakes and front discs, but would like to know if one needs to be done before the other? Also when the new power brake system is installed where will the vacuum line attach to the engine(302), Will any modifications need to be made to allow for the vacuum?

Thanks,

You also need the firewall bracket. Make sure you get that as everything else can be bought at Advance Auto, AutoZone, etc... but you must get the Power Brake Booster bracket from a donor vehicle.

Here's a view of the vacuum tree on a 302. The engine in this photo came from a '72 with manual brakes and manual transmission, which is why all the ports are capped off. If the truck had been equipped with an automatic transmission, there would have been a small vacuum line going to one of the smaller ports. If the truck had been equipped with power brakes, the larger port on top (which has a cap in it) would have had a short piece of steel tubing coming from it for the booster vacuum hose.

I've got another picture of a vacuum tree with the above-mentioned tube, but I'll be darned if I can find it. I'll do some more searching and see if I can dig it up. If I do, I'll post it to the Forum Reference Photo Gallery, as well as in this thread.

What is this bracket? I bought one from a salvage yard and only pulled off the booster. Is the bracket inside the cab?
