Retractable seat belts...

Post by Joe Kriston »

Any way to tear apart and repair the darn things?...I have to coerce and hand feed them back into the holder on every one of my vehicles...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

I tried to rebuild one a few weeks ago. Mine didn´t retract so I picked up one from the salvage yard off same model F100 but wrong color, dissasembled it and reassembled it on my blue belt. The hardest part was getting the brass clip back onto the spring housing. Finally got it back on and it still doesn´t retract. I guess I didn´t wind the spring enough or wound it the wrong way. I´m interested too.

The trick is to count the number of turns they are wound up when fully retracted and then wind them back up the same number of turns when you reassemble them. Too few rotations and they don't retract all the way, too far and the spring separates from the drum. Also there is a left and right retractor. Very frustrating! :cuss:

Sounds like a call to Snake Oyl 1-800-284-7777. All they do is seat belts. They might be able to help you out.
