i was just thinkin with the way the new trucks are goin i dont want a new one. so i was thinkin about for the prices of gas and if ya needed a good tow rig how about a 67-72 f250 with a 7.3 liter powerstroke. also they are doin some amazing things as far as performance with diesels. i thought it would be pretty cool. i have always loved diesel power and so i was thinkin this would be the best of both worlds.
What do you guys think?

That would be cool if you wanted to put your time into doing that. My nieghbor did a conversion like that to his 74. He sold it a couple months later. He did a nice job, it ran very strong, but it was so noisy inside that uninsulated tin can of a cab. He just didn't want to mess with it anymore.

You seen the prices of Diesel lately??? The 97 F-250 my wife drives isnt much better than the 360. I agree the noise would be unbearable, her truck has insulation everywhere. But anything is possible. Ill stick to my International/Case tractor.

re: 67-72 ford diesel
I just can't warm up to diesels much...Mainly the noise I guess, but I also don't really having the appx sound of a tractor trailer rig...They are good if you want to pull a big 5th wheel RV or something, but for my low strain uses, I prefer gas. I like a nice quiet engine, and the sound I do hear, I like better. Also these days, diesel costs more than gas around here. Even with a gas engine, both of my trucks could hardly be considered quiet with the mentioned "tin cab's". I even have carpet, etc... I was starting the 02 impala the other day, and dang near ripped the starter out by pulling a "good morning vietnam jeep trick"...I started the car, but it's so freaking quiet inside compared to what I'm used to in the trucks, I actually couldn't hear it running, and tried again...

re: 67-72 ford diesel
Around 30 years ago this old guy who sold old ford parts at swapmeets put a six cylinder perkins? diesel motor in a 67 to 69 F100,dont know what he used for mounts but I think he hooked it up to the original 3 speed and it sure sounded wierd to hear the diesel noise comming from that truck. I think the old guy is dead now but I seen him in it at swapmeets between indy and richmond indiana with that truck.

Most of the Dodges around here are straight piped and I think they sound like puke. The Fords sound even worse. Maybe I am ODed on them from living close to the last intersection going out of town plus close proximity to the high school. I can step outside just about anytime and hear one wailing away. Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

i love the sound of a hi-po V8, it dont matter what brand, they all sound great. But form the time i can remember i have loved semi trucks and heavy equipment so the love for diesels come from that. For mow im gonna stick with the 360 and do a mild performance build up on it. what are some seguestions for makin 350-400 horse from a 360?
