No front brakes!!!

When I got the 68 going a few weeks ago, I noticed the brake pedal felt funny. The mechanic confirmed that the front brakes are not working. I plan on re-bleeding when I get this damned cast off my hand. I replaced the master cylinder, all wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, and hardware on each wheel.

A little direction, other than bleeding, would be great!!

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder before installation?

Did dial the star wheel out so the pads were lightly rubbing the drums?

Oops, no, well, can't remember. I put these brakes on over 2 years ago and then ran out of time, money and patience, so it has sat still until recently.

steve, I'll have to double check, but aren't they self adjusters????

They Are but stil need initial adjustment from the installer.(You) The adjustment comes when after you initialy set the star wheel and then back up and slam em. pull forward and slam em and repaet a couple of times until they stop real good. Also sometimes the auto/self adjustor part is hokey at best. ewspecialy if you are missing the little tensioner straps inside the drum.

its best to spin the wheel by hand. who needs brakes any way. we don't need no stinking brakes

How are the hoses? These often go bad on the inside, essentially plugging them off, preventing fluid flow.

The rubber ones, right? I'll have to double check, but I don't think I replaced them.

I did some pokin' around with the brakes today. I popped the top on the master cylinder, and no fluid in the front brake resevoir!!!

So, I fill it up and bleed the pass. side, no problem. I move to the driver side, problem!!! Keith called it. Rubber hose busted.

It looks like they've been on there for quite some time. I wonder what my chances are of not destroying the metal line?????

I did soak them pretty good with some PB Blaster. I was able to change both rubber hoses and bleed them, despite the cast. My 5 year old sweetheart daughter helped me. Now the ole 68 stops on a dime!! Thanks again everyone!!
