Morning guys..
I have been having a problem with my left front caliper locking up after bleeding or pumping the brakes. Last night I jacked the front end up and replaced the left caliper with a new one hopping that was the problem but no, after pumping them they were locked tight. It’s like the pressures in the caliper won’t release so I loosened the bleeder valve and let some fluid out and the rotor turned!.
For some reason the pressures in that caliper won’t release after my foot‘s off the brake. Anyone else had a problem like this or where I might look for an answer? I have one line from the proportioning valve to a front distribution block and one line each to the front brakes.
Thanks
Ron

Take a look at the flex hose, though I’ve never had one do it, I have heard tales of them doing this sort of thing.
Hey Robert thanks for the reply... I just had 2 new flex hoses made yesterday so the hoses on both sides are the same and the right side works great. I do have a new line from rockauto I could try and at this point I'll try anything! It's so strange...
Thanks again

That is beyond odd... (I’m real helpful aren’t I )
Well assuming the caliper isn’t bad (not impossible but unlikely and contrary to Ockham’s razor) it has to be after the single front line leading into the distribution block right? Hard line look free of damage/kinks? Banjo bolt clear? Distribution block unobstructed?

2 different caliper same problem. Fluid flows to both caliper but the left won't release it. If I open the bleeder valve like I'm going to bleed them the fluid will gravity flow into the pan.
I might just make a new line tonight for the left side and see what happens also check the distribution block.
Thanks Robert of the input.

Calipers are supposed to float. Possibly the puck is getting put on a bind? Doesn't answer why it releases when the bleeder opens but it's something to think about.
Also possible the new caliper has the same problem as the old one. It happens. Maybe swap them side for side and see what happens. Just a PITA to bleed so you need to bleed them before installation over the rotor.

Ranchero, thanks for the reply... today I tried swapped the pucks from side to side and still have the problem.

I might try the calipers tomorrow. today I took off the left brake line to replace it and looked at the metering valve and was wondering if that could be the problem or even if I have the right lines in the right whole.
I was thinking it was just a pass-through but it has a little valve in it.
Thanks
Ron

Also, would this metering valve even came on a 71' F100 2wd with drums all a round?
Thanks

If the brake assembly that monitors pressure between the rear and front system is all gummed up you may get funny things happening. Does the light at the bottom left the dash work when starting the truck?

Thanks bluef250, The proportioning valve and pressure monitor are new. The brake light on the dash is not hooked up.
Thanks

Well guys, problem solved! I removed the metering valve from the crossmember and ran 2 new lines from the proportioning valve to the left and right front brakes and all is good.
A big THANKS to everyone the replied.
