Removing trim on windshield and rear window

Hey guys.. I'm getting ready to replace my windshield and rear window and would like to know how to remove the chrome trim without screwing it up.

It's one thing I've never done on a bump in over 35 years of owning and working on them.
AND HOPE I NEVER DO (from all the cussing I see guys doing especially when reinstalling it) LOL!

Are you using new rubber? if so just cut the rubber seal inside the cab and remove the window with the trim all at once. then carefully remove the trim.

From my experience, the difficulty in installing a windshield with metal trim is that the metal trim has gotten distorted - even slightly - and it causes a resistance to the rubber lip being pulled over the edge of the windshield opening.

take extra care not to bend or distort the metal trim when removing the old gasket AND when placing the metal trim into the groove of the new gasket before installation.

You want that shape to be exact, - as close to the way it was when installed on the truck.
Then put your string in (I’ve been using single strand of speaker wire) use your lubricant (windex is good) and position the unit against your opening but don’t let it all slide toward the bottom - try to keep it more uplifted so it is all better centered all the way around the whole windshield opening.

Or, let a pro do it. Don’t distort that SS trim.

Well, they lose because 2 days ago I found an older company that will do it for $265 windshield, labor and install the SS trim!!
I'm happy again.

I don't suppose there is a re-installation tutorial? I understand the trim goes on before the windshield is installed?

Zorm... this might help. One thing they do is start the install in the lower channel first but I have heard that Ford recommends you start the upper first.
