trim code 7?
Ok this appeared between my model number (F100) and the body style code (81) it is a stand alone seven and I cannot find that anywhere in my shop manuals. My truck is odd. It has the 70 explorer emblem on the glove box but I checked the 70 vin data and the only sevens have numbers after them. My seats are black/white checkered and i'm guessing thats the parchment pattern but the numbers don't match. another funny thing according to ford my truck was made in febuary 69. All other sources using the vin, say march. even that is a bit odd since it has the 70 emblem on it. It seems very early to have that on there.

re: trim code 7?
I wonder if your seat might have been replaced at some point. 'Parchment' is actually a tan color. Your seats should have been color-keyed with the rest of the interior, in conjunction with one of the Explorer-only colors....green, tan (parchment) or
You said it was checkered....is it actually more like a plaid, like shown here?:

re: trim code 7?
its like 50's diner checkered: the parts you actually sit on are black and white checkered with black leather on the sides and middle. the onlt pictures of the interior I have include the seat cover. I'll get a shot up later tonight. That may be the case, the build sheet says "standard black and white" I have yet to see that in my shop manual though. The a/c was not listed on the build sheet either and its the factory version so....I think ford is having fun with me.

re: trim code 7?
Regarding your build sheet....is this the original or did you write to Ford to get a copy? If you got the recent copy from the factory, I wouldn't trust the build sheet 100%. I've heard of several people who have heard back from Ford saying their trucks had equipment that they know for a fact wasn't included. For example, I got my request back from Ford a while back, and it told me my truck was originally equipped with bucket seats, when it's obvious this truck never had 'em. Another forum member reported the same thing...that they said his truck had buckets when it never did.
If you read the info on this scanned page from the '70 Explorer brochure, it says that although 'Grabber Blue' and 'Explorer Green' are the 'official Explorer Special colors', other colors were available. (What color IS your truck, anyway?) Yours could have been a special-order color, so the interior would have also matched the exterior.
Since Ford didn't produce as many Explorers (comparatively speaking), I'd imagine the Explorer codes remained the same for all model years. The trim code '7' for the '71 models show it meaning an Explorer Green Custom. Would that be accurate for your truck?
Still curious about the seat covers though....I'll await the pics.

ok there it is the bottom of the seat is real. the top half is covered by a seat cover. my ruck is federal red all the wat through with black dashpad, floormat and firewall cover. The exterior was repainted several years ago to a "more true red" as my dad said, but the interior remains the same.

re: trim code 7?
ah....that's Ford's famous Houndstooth pattern. Wasn't aware Ford used that pattern until later, like in the '73-up trucks. I wonder if the front seat is original?
OK then, I'm also not sure why your truck would have a code '7'. Actually, it appears that '7' means Explorer Green on the '71s and Harbor Blue for '72s...so it's entirely likely that the code for the '70s meant something else. I'll do some digging and see what I can find out.

re: trim code 7?
thanks. I will be having the seat out soon for a new floor to go in. Is there anything printed on it that would identify it?

re: trim code 7?
Well, there will be a metal tag on the back of the seat, hog-ringed to one of the seat-back springs (if somebody hasn't removed it) which might tell the tale....but I don't have the codes to decipher that tag yet.

re: trim code 7?
The code 7 you have references to 1969 F100/F250 truck seats having
Charcoal black corintian vinyl with black and white manston pattern cloth inserts. Your photo looks like the description probably the original seat.

These posts are hard to read because those pics are so big,but that seat bottom looks an awful lot like a,dare I say it,'72 C!@##$$y Cheyenne houndstooth...I've only seen a houndstooth on a Pinto...I think maybe a previous owner had the seat inserts redone in the later '70's because'69 seems kind of early for that pattern...

Hmmm....I wonder if they put some cooler stuff in demos that weren't that readily available or were hardly ordered by the public...

I feel like this truck isn't supposed to exist......unlisted features, odd codes, a non-truck paint color.....
