Huge screw up major help needed

Post by 71-Ford-F100 »

So I'm not sure if I'm in the the right area but here's what happened. I was driving down the road took a sharp turn too fast and my battery fell out of the holder and on to my alternator at the time I didn't know this happened so I was still driving then I heard a boom and saw black smoke, the battery exploded.. Spewing battery acid all over my shiny new engine.. I was able to salvage the air cleaner with chrome polish but my valve covers aren't rusted they are just covered the battery acid and look horrible, it's also covering some of the intake manifold and I read something about coating the intake manifold with battery acid and rinsing it off and it makes a nice finish.. And finally there's some on my carb.. The truck is running fine so no fear of anything getting into the engine it's just the fact that my brand new shiny engine.. Is well no longer brand new and shiny .. Any ideas?

You will want to mix up something to Neutralize Battery Acid. I like to use Baking Soda. here is a great e how that will help. you want to get it neutralized ASAP. then you can wash it off. Had a duel battery system blow on my old military jeep

Will that help if it's already dried? This happened last Saturday and progress to clean it was slow due to it raining for 6 days straight.. I was using chrome polish on my valve covers and with a ton of elbow grease I was able to get some of the residue off but the process was painful..
