A new old gizer

I am 70+. I have a '71 F250 4x4, I have owned for 40+ years. It has been sitting for the last 5 years or so, and was stolen about a month ago. I got it back in about a week. It had a lot of sheet metal rust, and the new owners decided to fix it up by smearing a variety paint and rust stop and primer on it. It wasn't a real beauty before, but it is down right ugly now. So bad I decided I had to do some fixing up in order for it to be seen in public. So -- I am working on the body. I am not aiming for a show truck, in fact I plan to paint it flat Boxwood Green, so the blemishes don't show too much.

Not sure if this is the place to ask, but here goes. I changed out the 360 for a 460 about 10 years ago, and following advice I could find, I put a van oil pan on it. I have had no problems, but with the filter I can only get 4 quarts of oil in before the dipstick say it is full. The dipstick came with the pan (new).
My question is, what is the best way to increase oil capacity? I have been thinking; Add an oil cooler, or add oil filters. I don't think I want to cut the pan, because that would mean modifying the pump pickup.
If I add filters, do they go in parallel or series? I would like to add about 3 quarts

from SoCal... As for your questions, you would be better off posting them in the actual forum dedicated to that topic, such as ENGINE, since a lot of the folks with the answers you are looking for have a better chance of seeing them there than in the welcome section.

I have a 460 in my truck as well, but it does not have a van pan on it and I put in anywhere from 5 to 6 quarts every change. I do not have the answer for you, but if you don't get a response, you might want to send a message to Bobbyford as he is an expert on 460 motors and he will probably know the answer.

from California! I got a 71' F250 4x4 with a 429 in it and it has the "van" style pan in it which is a rear sump pan. The dip stick is located on the side of the pan. I get 6 quarts of oil in my motor. How deep is the sump on your pan?

I'll have to do some checking. I suppose it could be that the dipstick is in too deep. I need to yank the engine to change the pilot, so I'll find out then.
