New Guy From North Shore MA

Post by Turbo_Dan »

Hi all!

Over the winter my father and I have started tinkering on a 1972 F-100 Custom 360 3 speed RWD that we found in my grandfathers barn. It was sitting next to a 1963 International Harvester Scout, as well as a couple of Hillmans (these have been sold recently). I don't have pictures, but I'll work on that...

The truck needs attention, but my father and I have welcomed the challenge. It took a few days of tinkering to get the truck running. My father used to run a small auto shop many years ago, and helped me get everything up and running. It didn't take much, we put in new spark plugs, coil, points, oil, fresh fuel, a $25 battery from the pick-and-pull and a little bit of Mystery Oil  . It fired right up! I did a vin decode and found out that this truck was born in February 1972 in Kansas City, MO.

I based the time it had been sitting by the MA inspection sticker, which is from 1996. There is a little bit of front end damage, but other than that the truck looks pretty good. It just has lots of patina from sitting . The interior needs attention as well.

This is going to be one of those projects with no deadline. We are still trying to figure out which direction we want to go with this. I have new ideas everyday.

I am much more familiar with fuel injected, turbocharged engines, so this old carbureted V8 is something new and different for me.

I have been putting a lot of thought into a Crown Victoria front end swap, and have been researching rear end swaps. Also, I'm debating on whether or not I want to refresh the 360, or replace it with a fuel injected engine. A coworker has a 32v 4.6 from a 2003 Mach 1 Mustang that I can get for short money.

But for now, I'd like to get this truck moving safely.

I have lots of research to do, and I believe that forums are an excellent resource for us car/truck enthusiasts. I'm looking forward to spending time on this forum and learning a lot!
